This year Nikon has joined the growing list of scopemakers with integrated riflescope/rangefinders with the new 4-12x42 Laser IRT (Immediate Ranging Technology). The Laser IRT combines the BDC reticle with an integral laser rangefinder, which work together to provide hunters with three important ingredients for long-range shots: precise distance measurement, proper aiming point and speed for immediate shot placement. The scope is also available with Nikon’s Nikoplex reticle. IRT technology returns precise and continuous distance readings for a period of twelve seconds, allowing the hunter time to range the animal and select the appropriate aiming circle. Once the animal is spotted, simply hit the button and settle in for the shot. The IRT keeps the hunter current on the range as the animal moves. The unique one-touch rangefinding capabilities of the IRT can also be operated using an included remote-control switch, which can be attached to the rifle with a Velcro strap.

The Laser IRT weighs in at twenty-six ounces and measures 13.1 inches in length. Eye relief of three inches and a low-profile mounting system allow the riflescope to be mounted on almost any rifle. O-ring-sealed and nitrogen-filled for true waterproof, fogproof and shockproof performance, the Laser IRT is built for virtually any kind of environment. Hand-turn quarter-MOA reticle adjustments allow precise zeroing, and a quick-focus eyepiece is standard. The scope operates on a 3-volt CR2 battery and ranges up to 766 yards.
The rangefinding capabilities of the IRT are the same as those in Nikon’s extensive laser rangefinder product line, with a bright, three-digit electroluminescent display in yards or meters. The measurement mode can be switched between either continuous or normal, measurement accuracy is within a yard, and the unit displays a reading in less than three seconds.
